Six county
wrestlers take Wrestlerama titles

Six Whatcom
County wrestlers won individual titles and Tahoma pulled out a nail-biting
victory in the final match to secure the team title at Saturday's 30th
Annual George Yonlick Wrestlerama at Bellingham High School.
Squalicum's Jason Costello (103 pounds) and Jace Cutrer (125) each took
first place with Costello defeating Central Kitsap's A. Templeton and
Cutrer besting Clover Park's Matt Roll 4-3.
Ferndale also claimed two titles. The Golden Eagles' Cody Higgerson
took a 7-2 triumph over Monroe's Brandon Huber at 171, and Chet Slevin
pinned Central Kitsap's Scott Jennings in 1:12 to win the title at 215.
At 160, Nooksack Valley's Andrew Larson beat Clover Park's Ira Jarmon
6-4 and Bellingham's Nick Vlahos won the 189-pound title with an 8-3 win
over Inglemoor's Isiah Solley.
In the race for the team title, Tahoma trailed Lake Stevens 130-129
going into the 275-pound final and pulled away for a 132-130 victory when
the Bears' Will Blaschko defeated the Vikings' Matt Leonard 5-4 in double
overtime.
Squalicum was the tops among the five Whatcom County teams at the
tournament, finishing fifth with 110 points.
Tahoma's Amber Montgomerie, a girls' 112-pound national champion, also
competed, finishing third at 112.
Bellingham's Mikey Woodruff (112) and Squalicum's Nick Webb (140)
advanced to their respective finals and took second place.
