Naches edges Toppenish to win own tournament

NACHES — Toppenish had more champions but Naches had just enough depth to edge
past the Wildcats for the team title in Saturday's 19th annual Ranger New Year's
Classic wrestling tournament.
Naches tallied 1781/2 points in the eight-team tourney, which lost several
westside entries who were unable to attend because of road conditions. Toppenish
finished with 1721/2.
Naches' champions were Joe Frazier (140), Justin Hastings (145), Mike Rivera
(152), and Josh Van Trease (171).
Toppenish's winners were J.J. Garza (103), Josue Gutierrez (112), Ignacio
Castaneda (119), Adam Sifuentes (125) and Ruben Rios (275).
East Valley finished third with titles from Scott Thompson (130) and Kameron
Hopkins (135).
Team scores: Naches 1781/2, Toppenish 1721/2, East Valley 116, Cle Elum 91, West
Valley JV 72, Burbank 701/2, White Swan 631/2, Highland 261/2.
