Well the Garfield
wrestling season ended a week early and I finished all my midterms
leaving me with all kinds of time to examine the brackets in
ridiculous detail. I guess I probably would've examined these
brackets whether I had homework or not. Anyways, I've decided who
I think is gonna place at every weight. At least I've managed to
keep my spot as Washington's number one wrestling nerd.
103
1 Walt - His quarterfinal match with Cambron'll be big.
2 Conder - Her side of the bracket is weaker. I think she'd lose
to Walt or Cambron, but luckily for her, she won't see either til
the finals.
3 Cambron - I think he'll come back after not doing as well at
regional as I thought he would.
4 Garza
5 Zweifel
6 Cruz - I don't know much about him. He won the regional Cambron
was at, but didn't wrestle Cambron. I don't know if he can take
Conder.
7 Hadi
8 Gray
112
1 Owen
2 Kipperberg - His quarterfinal with Sencenbaugh'll be big but I
think he'll pull it out this year.
3 Sencenbaugh - If he wrestles Robbins it'll be close. If they
wrestle in the semis, I pick Robbins. Anywhere else, I pick
Sencenbaugh.
4 Ottow - I think Sencenbaugh'll win the rematch.
5 Robbins
6 Gassman
7 Webster
8 Garza
119
1 Hayes
2 Smith - His match with Malsam should be good.
3 Malsam
4 Loos
5 Heinz
6 Gunter - He beat Schoonover again despite all you nay-sayers and
this time he looked really dominant. Still, if they wrestle at
state, I pick Schoonover. At this point, he's gonna feel like he
has more to prove. Of course, I don't think they're gonna wrestle.
7 Muse
8 Schoonover
125
1 Mangrum
2 Mendez
3 Lowry
4 Perry
5 Edwards
6 Tipton
7 Knowlton
8 King
130
1 Kelly
2 Martin - His match with Yonago should be close, but I think
he'll win.
3 Yonago
4 Musick
5 Kenny
6 Iniquez
7 Monson
8 Mather
135
1 Whitley - I really want Jonny to win but it seems like Whitley's
really had a better year.
2 Gilbertson - So two of the last three years, he's lost in the
semifinals to guys he's beaten at regionals. For the first time
ever, that actually can't happen. Maybe somehow that makes him
more likely to do well?
3 Rodriguez
4 Starks
5. Barnes - And all three of 4As four time placers are at the same
weight class. That really sucks. I think Barnes is about to not
make the semifinals for the first time ever. That could be tough
to recover from mentally.
6 Jones - He has the easiest route to the semis, but then I think
he's losing three in a row.
7 Swartz - His match with Starks should be close and it's probably
the biggest match of the first day as far as team scores are
concerned.
8 Tally
140
1 Chesher - I was surprised he lost to Medrano and to Varnell the
week before. Still, I think he'll get it together for state like
he did last year. He was far from the favorite then and he pulled
it out.
2 Varnell - Of course, last year he kicked ass under pressure too.
He lost his first match and came back to get third. If this match
does happen, it'll be good.
3 Van Leuven - I've been saying since Tri-State that if he and
Varnell ever wrestled again, Varnell was gonna win. I guess we'll
get to see if I'm right.
4 Kintner - I think he's gonna lose if he wrestles Van Leuven
again. Van Leuven'll be more motivated because the team scores are
gonna be close and he really seems like a "team" kinda guy.
5 Parker
6 Medrano - I see him making the semifinals but losing his rematch
with Chesher and then losing his next two.
7 Wills - I think he'll get a rematch with Sterling to place and I
think he'll win this time.
8 Monk - This should be Parks. In fact, if this were Parks, he
probably could've placed even higher. Why wasn't he wrestling 140
at the end of the year? He was there most of the season.
Battleground could've used his points. Of course, Trenda should be
here too.
145
1 Hall
2 Anderson
3 Albert - I thought he looked good at region and I think he'll
beat Stokke.
4 Sweet - This guy is wild to watch. He tries so many throws. In
the regional finals with Albert, he tried to throw him four times.
He missed the first three, but he got the last one for five points
and with more time, he might've gotten the pin. He's a threat to
beat anybody he catches. I don't think he's about to catch Hall
though.
5 Hatton - I heard he's kinda hurt but I bet he still places.
6 Stokke
7 Healy
8 Anderson
152
1 Johnson - Their last one was close and Johnson is somebody who
can get psychologically rattled, but I'll still pick him to win.
2 Roshau
3 Giovannini - He looked really good at regionals. I think his
match with Roshau'll be close.
4 Knemeyer
5 Robb
6 Moehrle
7 Dodge
8 Crockett - I'm interested to see his first match with Aadland.
They both tend to not give up many points, but they don't score a
lot of points either. If anybody gets a takedown in that match, I
bet they'll win.
160
1 Onufer - Some people are saying that he can't lose, but I think
his match with Pitsch is going to be really close.
2 Pitsch - I don't know how he got third at districts. He looked
dominant at regionals.
3 Schlect
4 Finnicum - I think he's gonna beat Farmer.
5 Ebat - I think he's gonna beat Farmer too.
6 Butenhoff
7 Farmer
8 Lane
171 - Skurnik losing to Aschenbrenner and Zumwalt getting third
make this weight kinda tough to predict. Still, here goes.
1 Swartz
2 Buck
3 Zumwalt - Him vs. Schuele is by far the biggest first round
match.
4 Varner - Vigoren vs. Varner is big too because the loser will
wrestle the loser of Zumwalt and Schuele to place.
5 Schuele
6 Skurnik - I picked him to place because I think he'll lose to
Vigoren. It actually gives him a slightly easier shot at placing.
I think he'll beat Aschenbrenner if they rematch. That last match
was screwed up. The ref made two weird penalty calls in the first.
It should have been 2-0 but instead it was 2-2. I think Skurnik
was really rattled after that. He'll be ready for him this time.
7 O’Brien - I don't think people give him enough credit. If he
hadn't gotten hurt last year he would've placed. I think he might
be Buck's toughest match until the finals.
8 Temus
189
1 Chriswell
2 Mustafa - Man, region 1 was tough at this weight. This may be
the toughest weight at regionals I've ever seen. By winning it,
Mustafa should have a good shot at the finals.
3 Allen - Looks like he's wrestling Chriswell in the semis again.
That's tough. It might be hard for him to recover mentally. A lot
of seniors who did well as juniors have trouble recovering from
losing. Still, I think he will and I predict he'll get third.
4 Jones - Poor Wilbourne has a really tough draw. He's actually
probably better off losing his first match. Assuming he beats
Fackrell, he'll lose to Chriswell and I think he's gonna lose to
Jones too. I know Wilbourne did better at regionals, but like I
said before, seniors who did well as juniors and lose early tend
to not be mentally in it. I think him and Jones are pretty close
anyways so if he's not all there mentally, he's gonna lose.
5 Novak
6 Gates - He should've won regionals. He was winning in the semis
but got DQed when Kaplowitz said he was hurt too badly to go on.
The slam didn't look that bad to me.
7 Schaefer
8 Fackrell
215
1 Kooyman - I wish he and Boyce would've wrestled at regionals. I
think he would've won.
2 Boyce - I hope he wasn't too badly hurt at regionals.
3 Silverman - Boyce vs. Silverman is another big quarterfinal
match. It went overtime in the semifinals last time. I actually
thought Silverman looked like the better wrestler last year, but I
know he's wrestled a few matches at 189 and if he's kinda small, I
gotta give Boyce the edge.
4 Senescall
5 Fredericksen
6 Sobczak
7 Burns
8 Williams
275 - What the hell happened at Region 3? The top four ended up
in the exact opposite order of what I had expected. Shows what I
know. Of course, the wildcard is Magee. I know he didn't make it
to state, but he didn't make it to state last year either and he
got seventh, so maybe this was all just part of his plan.
1 Corbett - I realy thought Corbett had this weight locked up but
after getting fourth in region, it's tough to say. I guess I'll
pick him anyways.
2 Marshall
3 Biddle - I think he'll beat Camus and has a definite shot at
beating Marshall.
4 Totten - He'll have a tough time with Stultz, but I think he's
gonna win. It'll definitely be a good one.
5 Shelton - I think he and Stultz are gonna wrestle each other in
the match to place. Despite Stultz's fantastic regionals, I'm
giving it to Shelton cuz he has the state experience.
6 Wooldridge
7 Camus - I know he got second last year, but this is where I see
him ending up.

comments on whether or not I have a lot of time on my hands. I do.
We all know it. Say something else.
