Rockets clobber 'Cats

CASTLE ROCK ---- After Ilwaco failed to show for a wrestling double-dual on Wednesday, Castle Rock had to be satisfied with a 66-4 thumping of La Center in SWW 1A Trico action.

The Rockets got pins from Parker Williamson (112 pounds), Matt Payne (119), Jon Roden (125), Chris St. John (135), Tyler Eccles (140), Jed Lomer (152), Ty Finkas (171), Dane Wlliams (189) and Mike Collins (215). Curtis Johnson won an 8-4 decision at 145 and Sammy Williams took 130 with a 7-5 decision.

"Williams wrestled a real tough match," Castle Rock coach Joe Godinho said. "He's a second-string guy, so I'm really pleased with his performance."

Rockets rally past Washougal

CASTLE ROCK ---- Against the odds, Castle Rock pulled out a 36-36 tie against Washougal, then beat the Panthers on criteria Monday night.

"I knew that going into this match, we were fighting an uphill battle," CR coach Joe Godinho said. "We never did have control of this match."

Washougal built up a 24-0 lead before Mike Collins (215 pounds) put the Rockets on the board with a 3-1 overtime decision. Joe Gaze bumped the team score up another three points with a decision at 103, and Parker Williamson (112), Matthew Payne (119), Jon Roden (130), and Chris St. John (135) kept Castle Rock's hopes alive with desperately needed pins.

Jon Byerly won a decision at 145, but Washougal was still up 36-33 going into the final match, at 152. Jed Lomer tied it for CR with a 9-4 decision, and because they had won eight matches to Washougal's six, the Rockets received the win.

"The kids really stepped upm" Godinho said. "The whole team wrestled hard, no one gave in to anything."

Castle Rock (2-0) hosts Toledo/Winlock on Thursday.

R.A. Long's Centralia dual has been moved to Dec. 14 at the Lumberdome.
