Re: Connell Observations

Tourny Predictions"
103 - Royal's Kris Rice beat
Chelan's Dillon Parker in a close match. Not much action for a 103 match.
112 - Warden's Jesse Guerra beat Royal's Rigoberto Jimenez 8-5 in a close
and controversial match. In the third round, with Jimenez trailing 5-3,
there was an exchange where Guerra turned Jimenez for a 3-pt near-fall, then
Jimenez reversed Guerra. Royal coaches appeared to argue that Jimenez had a
grandby on Guerra, and therefore should have been the one to score the
near-fall on Guerra. Refs stuck to the original call.
119 - Troy Cunningham over Quincy's Jared Reyes - a close match, but
Cunningham looked to be the better wrestler.
125 - Arturo Barajas over Henry Hernandez - (MD) this wasn't really that
close at all, Barajas dominated, scoring takedowns at will.
130 - Gabe Lindquist over Omar Avelar - Lindquist dominated in the second
round and won something like 9-2. Avelar didn't look to be wrestling his
best.
135 - Wes Jenks (Connell) over Dan Somers of Quincy - Close match, but Jenks
looked to be the better of the two.
140 - Sam Villegas over Jeff Jordan - The score was something like 9-2, and
Villegas controlled the entire match. Jordan never mounted a serious
offensive attack, and other than during the middle of the match, Jordan had
a very difficult time stopping Villegas' shot.
145 - Adam Thies over Angel Ledezma - closest match of the night, finished
5-1, but was a dead heat until Thies lifted Ledezma near the edge of the mat
and slammed him down (cleanly) for a takedown.
152 - Mathis of Royal over Alan martinez of Warden 9-3.
160 - Jordan Thomas of Royal over Scott Phillips of Royal, 11-6. Sloppy
match. Thomas hit a pair of head-and-arms, one for 4 pts and one for 5, the
difference in the match. Two pretty evenly match wrestlers.
171 - Adam Orozco (Connell) over Warden's Joel Martinez. Orozco is a beast.
Never stopped attacking. Won 9-0.
189 - Tate Collins over Hector Ledezma (Royal) 8-5. Ledezma battled, but
Collins had the better technique.
215 - Bryan Jones (Naches) over Justin Rollins (Warden) 8-5. Nice active
match for 215. Jones had to take 2 injury timeouts...looked like he was
gonna puke. Managed to suck it up to get a late takedown in the third round
to seal the win.
275 - Trandon Benson (Royal) pinned Dereck Maltone (burbank) after giving up
a quick takedown on a throw attempt, Benson hit a roll, took Maltone to his
back and stuck him. Maltone looked overmatched. |
