Team Rankings for 2006-07

By Dave Gilbertson & Phil Lercher

February 2, 2007 edition

You wanted them so we got them. TEAM RANKINGS!  Phil Lercher of Auburn has gone through my individual rankings and results and put it together to come up with team rankings for each of the five divisions in Washington plus an All-Class dividion.  We will probably do this once a week until we get through state at which time we will have the official standings.

Dave Gilbertson

It has been a while since Washington has regularly had team rankings for the state. Since Dave Gilbertson's individual rankings listed on this web site (Washington Wrestling Report) are pretty much the "official" rankings for the state, they are a good starting point to establish team rankings for each classification. I want to thank Dave for allowing me to collaborate with him on this effort.

1B/2B are combined in B. For class B I considered the number and placing of returning state placers plus this year's tournament team results found on this site, with an emphasis on this year's tournaments. 1A through 4A I used individual placing calculations: 26, 20, 13, 11, 8, 6, 3, 2pts for placings. I included placing points, advancement points, and 2 pins for 1st and 1 pin for 2nd (the pins were the rough average for 2006 3A & 4A).

Since there was not much individual data for 1A, I researched the tournaments listed on this site for placing data. The tournaments posted are mostly from eastern Washington, but the western teams are well represented in the 1A list. Scattered across all classifications there are weights that do not have all eight spots filled. As you can see above, the missing points from 6th through 8th places will only affect tight team races.

The rankings are a good starting point and a topic for board discussion. Crunching numbers takes much of the subjectivity out of the rankings. Be sure to email significant match results to Dave to keep his individual list current and accurate.

Thanks,
Phil Lercher
