How the team rankings are calculated for the WWR Rankings The state team rankings are based upon a hypothetical state tournament with the final placings derived from the current individual rankings. Placing points are assigned for 8 places (4 places for B), plus advancement points, 2 pins for the 1st place winner and 1 pin for the 2nd place winner. Of course, actual state tournaments have variations in pins, but this method represents an average. We take the top eight ranked guys in each division and assign the following points for current rankings: 4A through 1A is 1st = 26 pts., 2nd = 20, 3rd =13, 4th = 11, 5th = 8, 6th = 6, 7th = 3, 8th = 2. For Class B the points are 22, 16, 10, and 6. The kicker in any statistical analysis is that some teams will have several wrestlers that won't place but will win some matches at state, will score advancement points and will add pin, tech or major decision bonus points. Some teams will have many of these non-placers scoring many points at the Mat Classic. Our system does not account for non-placers and does not try to. We only award points based on top 8 individual ranking. |
