Howard Leslie 
Raines passed away Saturday, September 4, 2004 after a long two-month illness. 
Howard was born on October 3, 1920 to Rufus and Leona Raines, both deceased.
 He is survived by his wife, Darlene; brothers, Don Raines of Everett and Lewie 
Raines of Lake Stevens; daughters, Howie Ehlers of Nebraska, Denise Alexander of 
Snohomish, Robyn Dry of Marysville and Shelly Nelson of Snohomish; sons, Brad 
Raines of Olympia and Rod Nelson of Mukilteo; and numerous grandchildren, 
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
 
 Howard was a Teacher and Wrestling Coach at Snohomish High School for over 30 
years, as well as being a Freshman Football Coach, Wrestling Official and 
operating a landscaping business after his retirement from teaching. One of his 
proudest moments was being inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches 
Hall of Fame in 1997. Howard had a great impact on many of his students and the 
community as a whole and was always willing to give his help and support to 
those who needed it. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be 
greatly missed.
 
 Funeral services for family and friends was held at 11:00 AM Friday, 
September 10th at G.A.R. Cemetery in Snohomish. A memorial service was held 
at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 11th at the old gymnasium at Snohomish High 
School.
 
 Arrangements under the direction of Bauer Funeral Chapel, Snohomish.
