The 2020-21 season has finally gotten underway starting in May of 2021. I have added the 2020-21 High school page and the first tournament results are posted there. This year will have very few tournaments and most schools will only be doing duals. This will be a very limited season with duals and no post season going on. It is my understanding the WSWA is going to be hosting an open high school tournament in late June that will be the closest thing to a real state title. If that happens then I suggest that all top level wrestlers sign up if they want to have any type of post season ranking. More on that to come.
This will be a trying year in wrestling just like the last 15 months have been for everything. I am thankful that the young men at least get some type of season, especially for the seniors. Results will most likely be limited this year but we will do what we can to obtain results. I start my season this week doing two evaluations of newer officials then start my own reffing the following week. We could sure use some more officials. Good luck to all.
The web site is not posting anything in 2020-21 because we do not have a high school wrestling season in Washington presently. It is planned for later in spring but we will have to wait and see. If the season happens and we have results to post then we will post them. I hope it happens. If not, hopefully next year (2021-22) is back to normal.
This has been a tough spring for wrestling and for the USA in general. High school season went well culminating with the Mat Classic. I had the honor of getting to ref the 4A finals this year with three other officials. Went from the high of the Mat Classic final to try and roll into freestyle. That is when COVID-19 hit and shut down so much of our country including all schools and sports. As a result of that we have nothing to report and the web site is pretty quiet. We don’t know yet whether wrestling or or economy in general will be back to full operation by the next school year. I certainly hope so and remain optimistic that we will have a season. We don’t have any current information to report but I do have the 2020 Pre-Season Rankings for the B Division. Hopefully that gives the fans of wrestling something to review and hope for next year. I hope everyone stays safe and the site will become active again once life returns to normal and we start to have tournaments. The message board is always available for reading and posting and is still having activity as we work our way through this crisis.
The Mat Classic was the conclusion of the high school season with the Championships in the Tacoma dome on February 22, 2020. This time of year some folks just kick back for some well deserved rest while others will start up very soon into the spring wrestling season of freestyle and Greco-Roman. The end of the school season is marked on here every year by posting the Final All-Class rankings. The rankers and I reviewed those earlier this week and we proudly posted those today.
They can be found at the following link:
The brackets for the Mat Classic can be found at the link below. You can use that link to TrackWrestling to follow all the brackets and team scores in real time. I believe they will also be having streaming video of each match on Track Wrestling for a subscription fee.
After the Mat Classic is over, and all the divisional placings have been determined, the Washington Wrestling Report will post it’s Annual All-Class Post-Season Rankings which rank the wrestlers as if they were all in one single division.
On Sunday after the Mat Classic has concluded the T-Dome will reload to host the WSWA Folkstyle State Championships for all age groups. This event has 1701 entries on the book and will be a huge event as always. Registration is now closed and the big weekend of wrestling will be done at it’s conclusion
Brackets are located on the High School Page. The Rankings Page link is at the top of this page along with a link to the High School Page for 2019-20. Remember to have tournament directors email the completed brackets of their tournaments to be posted on the site and to be reviewed for ranking changes. Also remember to email any input on rankings to me at Info@Washingtonwrestlingreport.net so I can analyze them and then forward them to all the pertinent rankers for review on a class by class basis.
Once the high school season gets underway the brackets and rankings will being updated almost daily. As always, feel free to comment on the rankings on the message board as the rankers do read those and use the information in addition to what they are able to review from the data on the WWR web site.
To see quick update of which rankings have been updated simply go to the “Categories” drop down arrow in the upper right hand of the screen right over the ads on the right. Click the arrow and chose “Rankings” and it will lists ALL the rankings by most recent date. Try it and let me know what you think on the message board.
Hard to believe but it seems that not everyone in wrestling is aware of this site and the effort we make as a group to get the information in one central location for all the wrestling fans to see. We need folks to write down my email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) and make sure they hand it to the tournament directors at ALL tournaments and ask them to email the completed brackets to us for posting. The more people we have talking to the administrators that have the data, the more results we will see on the site. Keep the requests going so we can all see what’s happening!
Feel free to post comments about the rankings on the comments page or on the message board but also send that information directly to Dave Gilbertson if you want to make sure that I and the other rankers get the data. The ranking team doesn’t read every post on the board but I do read every email that I receive and I forward all of them onto the rest of the team after I review them. The new format for the Washington Wrestling Report is continuing to evolve over time as we head into the 2012-13 season. The original pages are all still up at the former site but I am making the transition to this new web publisher and will maintain links between the historical data on the old site. The new format has many additional features that we will describe as they become available and all information for 2012-13 forward will be in the new format.
There are comment sections for the various posts that will appear so please try out the different areas and give me your feedback. My email address is on the contacts page plus each comment on this site sends me an email notification of the comment to approve before posting. Use the categories selection box to filter posts according to various pre-determined categories. Check out the Recent Posts section to read the newest posts as they are created. There is a search window that can find any text that is on the site. That will only work on the data I enter on the new site for 2012-13.
Please sign in with the subscription form that can be found on the right side of my page. That will send you email notification of new pages/posts that I will be publishing as the season progresses..
