Mat Classic is now history and the WIAA sponsored high school wrestling season has completed. Although the WIAA season is over, wrestling for high school students is not done. On March 9, 2019 the Washington State ORCA Dual Team will travel to Northern California to have their annual battle with California and Oregon for west coast supremacy. Washington has been involved with this for the past eight years and it is usually a hotly contested event with Washington having come out on top 2-3 times over those years.
Besides the ORCA Duals there is also the NHSCA Nationals held back in Virginia Beach. The Senior Nationals at this event have traditionally been considered the high school senior’s national championships for folkstyle wrestling. There is also the USAW Folkstyle Nationals which has a high school division as well. Last but not least is the 2019 Reno World’s Championships held at the Reno Livestock Events Center, Reno, Nevada on April 4-7, 2019. This is one of the biggest Folkstyle championships in the country and includes ages five up through high school.
This year again we had rankings for each division on the Washington Wrestling Report as well as the All-Class division. The final ranking for the individual divisions is done by the results of those divisions at the Mat classic. Since there are no one division championships in the state the All-Class division does one final ranking in order to recognize the best wrestlers in the state an overall basis as opposed to by division. The all class rankings have been updated as of three days after the Mat Classic completion and are now updated on the rankings page. The link below will take you to the final All-Class rankings.
As we wind down the folkstyle season the state starts to ramp up for the freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling that will occur over the next several months. Make sure you check in with the WSWA website which will have information on opportunities available for local wrestling tournaments as well as national events and national teams. We will be posting periodic information here during the freestyle season and encourage everyone to utilize off-season wrestling training to improve for next year. It’s been a great year and we hope for more of the same next year.
Well, we are officially underway with the 2018-19 rankings brackets started posting on December 2, 2018. Brackets are looked on the High School Page. The Rankings Page link is at the top of this page along with a link to the High School Page for 2018-19. Remember to have tournament directors email the completed brackets of their tournaments to be posted on the site and to be reviewed for ranking changes. Also remember to email any input on rankings to me at DaveG@Washingtonwrestlingreport.com so I can analyze them and then forward them to all the pertinent rankers for review on a class by class basis.
Once the high school season gets underway the brackets and rankings will being updated almost daily. As always, feel free to comment on the rankings on the message board as the rankers do read those and use the information in addition to what they are able to review from the data on the WWR web site.
To see quick update of which rankings have been updated simply go to the “Categories” drop down arrow in the upper right hand of the screen right over the ads on the right. Click the arrow and chose “Rankings” and it will lists ALL the rankings by most recent date. Try it and let me know what you think on the message board.
Hard to believe but it seems that not everyone in wrestling is aware of this site and the effort we make as a group to get the information in one central location for all the wrestling fans to see. We need folks to write down my email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) and make sure they hand it to the tournament directors at ALL tournaments and ask them to email the completed brackets to us for posting. The more people we have talking to the administrators that have the data, the more results we will see on the site. Keep the requests going so we can all see what’s happening!
Feel free to post comments about the rankings on the comments page or on the message board but also send that information directly to Dave Gilbertson if you want to make sure that I and the other rankers get the data. The ranking team doesn’t read every post on the board but I do read every email that I receive and I forward all of them onto the rest of the team after I review them. The new format for the Washington Wrestling Report is continuing to evolve over time as we head into the 2012-13 season. The original pages are all still up at the former site but I am making the transition to this new web publisher and will maintain links between the historical data on the old site. The new format has many additional features that we will describe as they become available and all information for 2012-13 forward will be in the new format.
There are comment sections for the various posts that will appear so please try out the different areas and give me your feedback. My email address is on the contacts page plus each comment on this site sends me an email notification of the comment to approve before posting. Use the categories selection box to filter posts according to various pre-determined categories. Check out the Recent Posts section to read the newest posts as they are created. There is a search window that can find any text that is on the site. That will only work on the data I enter on the new site for 2012-13.
Please sign in with the subscription form that can be found on the right side of my page. That will send you email notification of new pages/posts that I will be publishing as the season progresses..
